Macrostax has added a new professional athlete to our roster … Taliyah Brooks! We sat down with Taliyah and asked her a few questions about what she has planned for 2022.
Macrostax: Introduce yourself! Tell us a bit about what you do – which track events you participate in, where do you train, what does your routine look like, how are you feeling about the competitive season coming up, etc?
Taliyah: I compete in the heptathlon, which is 7 events contested over two days. Basically, the better you do in each event the more points you get, and whoever has the most points at the end wins! The events are the 100 hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200 meters, long jump, javelin, and the 800 is last. I’ve always wanted to compete for my country in the Olympics and I know each year is a building block towards that. I am originally from Texas but currently live and train in Hog Country… Fayetteville, Arkansas. Woo Pig Sooie!
Macrostax: We’re excited to help fuel you for competition this year! Most of our Macrostaxers do a variety of workouts, but I know we have a few track athletes. Can you talk about how Macrostax’s program specifically helps you in your sport?
Taliyah: For me, it is making sure I get enough protein. That is something that I have struggled with the most in the past. I don’t really like protein shakes so I have to make sure I am getting my protein in the food that I am eating. On the track, I can definitely see the difference. I am recovering faster and am able to perform better. Also, I just feel more energized. I feel like I have more energy to make it through my long practices. When I am not on top of my nutrition, it shows in my performance and energy levels.
Macrostax: What about a day of eating? What does that look like for you following Macrostax numbers?
Taliyah: So for breakfast, I often eat avocado toast or an egg white scramble with some sort of fruit. Then depending on what I have as far as practices or weights, I may eat a bar or a banana as a snack. For lunch, I love tacos on corn tortillas or I will eat some tuna on a sandwich or crackers, along with more fruit. For dinner, I love to mix it up. But my go-to meal is salmon, asparagus, and some sort of potato or rice. And I may have some sweet popcorn on protein ice cream as a sweet treat.
Macrostax: Speaking of sweet treats… what’s your favorite?
Taliyah: A cinnamon roll from a local bakery here in Fayetteville called Briar Rose. If I am traveling and I do well at a really big competition, then I eat cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory. I’m also a steak girl!
Macrostax: What about from the Macrostax app?

Macrostax: People think professional athletes are almost other-worldly because of their supreme natural talent and dedicated training. What are things you eat, or things you do each day, that are more relatable than people might think?
Taliyah: I sleep a lot! I love my Netflix! I have some road rage, haha. I do love my coffee. When I am feeling under the weather I love to drink hot tea.
Macrostax: Sleep is one of the most important parts of recovery!
Taliyah: I agree! And I am excited to partner with Macrostax because nutrition is such a big part of my being successful on the track.
